Shri Amarnath Yatra 2013 dates are announced by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB). Normally the beginning date for the Amarnath Yatra is not fixed and it is not possible logically to maintain a fixed duration of the yatra every year. But, according to the ongoing tradition(Parampara) the ending date for the yatra is fixed which concludes on the day of Raksha Bandhan falls every year.

In 2011, Raksha Bandhan was on 13th August and yatra duration was 46 days. Last year 2012, Raksha Bandhan was on 2nd August and the yatra duration was 39 days only. This year 2013, Raksha Bandhan is on 21st August. and the commencemenct date is on June 28, 2013. The duration of the yatra for 2013 is 55 days and longer duration compared to the last two years. How do decides Amarnath Yatra Commencement Date(Starting Date)?
Normally Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board will setup a committee for deciding the Beginning Date and duration of the annual Amarnath Yatra. This committee will take various factors(weather, Yatra works, assessment of the pace of Snow-Melt and more..) into consideration and finally will recommend the Yatra commencement date and finalize the Schedule and Duration of the Amanath Yatra.
